Tommy Fleetwood a rhythm after opening the tour in Memphis

Tommy Fleetwood pulled an opening lap of 63 to sit ahead in the Fedex St Jude championship.

The round of seven subparameters of Fleetwood during the first events of the Fedex Cup at the end of the season left him in the American Akshay Bhatia to Memphis.

The English duo Harry Hall and Justin Rose were alongside American Bud Cauley in equality for the third after the opening with 64s.

Robert Macintyre in Scotland and Matt Fitzpatrick in England are five shots, alongside the world number one of Scottie Scheffler who played his first round of tournament since he won the Open to Royal Portrush.

Bhatia helped the 16th hole and closed with two birdies to go with a 62 opening, Fleetwood also finishing strongly with four fence snecks.

“I hit the ball so well from the T-shirt that I always gave myself an opportunity,” said Fleetwood, who found 13 of the 14 fairways.

Rose built her turn on five birdies in six holes around the turn before dropping a shot on the 13th.

Only the 70 best in the Fedex ranking of a season qualified for the event – although Rory McILroy has chosen not to play this week – with the top 50 after the tournament that reached the BMW championship next week.

The top 30 after that will dispute the Tour championship in pursuing a bonus of $ 10 million (7.4 million pounds sterling).
