The long search for Wales for a new head coach is finished with Steve Tandy confirmed as the permanent successor of Warren Gatland.
Tandy, long considered among the favorites for the role, will take charge from September and should lead his native country to the 2027 World Cup after five years as an assistant of Gregor Townsend with Scotland.

Defense coach of the British and Irish lions during the tour in 2021 in South Africa, the former flanker spent six seasons as a chief coach of the oscreys and also worked with the Waratahs in Australia.
His appointment comes after months of uncertainty that followed the ax of the Six Nations of Gatland. Matt Sherratt, Cardiff’s coach, was installed as a temporary worker for the rest of this campaign and took over the memory of the Japan tour.
Wales finally succeeded in its losing race of 18 games during the second test and will face Argentina, Japan, New Zealand and South Africa in a delicate set of matches in November later this year.
“Becoming head coach of my country of origin is a massive honor and a privilege,” said Tandy. “I can’t wait to play a role in the reconstruction phase of Welsh rugby and bring the national team back to competition with the best countries in the world.

“I am enthusiastic about the potential of Welsh rugby and the group of young workers and workers we have. Fall lights represent a huge opportunity and give us a chance to test ourselves against some of the best teams in world rugby. ”
The composition of Tandy’s staff has not yet been confirmed, but Sherratt has suggested that he would consider a role in the national team in the past. Danny Wilson and Adam Jones returned to Harlequins after being second with Wales in Japan – he would be a strong competitor for a scrum coaching role if he wishes.
Tandy arrives at a crucial time for rugby in the country, the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) recently confirming that they are considering a reduction in the number of professional parts in the midst of a broader examination of the structure of the game.
