Straka jumps BMW but will play the PGA Tour championship

The Austrian Sepp Straka withdrew from the BMW PGA Tour championship on Monday for family reasons, but will participate in the championship of next week tour, the tour announced.

Straka ranks fifth of the Fedex Cup qualifiers and made a place in the debt of the season in Atlanta even without playing the BMW, thanks in part to the victories at the American Express in January and the Truist championship in May.

“For personal reasons, SEPP is unable to play this week,” said Straka manager, Butler Melnyk, in a statement. “He intends to participate in the touring championship, but requests confidentiality at the moment because he takes care of a family business at home.”

This leaves a field of 49 for the BMW this week at the Valley Golf Club cellars in the suburbs of Baltimore. The top 30 of the classification of the season will then go to the Tour championship on August 21 to 24 in East Lake.

The world number 10, Straka, 32, is a quadruple winner of the PGA Tour with 13 TOP-25 this season, including a part of the 17th during the first eliminatory event last week in Memphis.

In three appearances in the touring championship, the best show of Straka was a part of the seventh in 2022.

Straka ranks sixth in the qualification classification of the Ryder Cup team, with the top six after the tour championship won the automatic spot in September at the European team in September at the Bethpage State Park.
