Richardson comes out 200m at American tests, Coleman through

Sha’Carri Richardson failed to reach the 200m final at the American athletic championships in Oregon on Sunday, ending a turbulent week that saw him stopped for domestic violence.

Richardson, the defending champion of the 100m, finished fourth in her round in 22.56 seconds, leaving her just outside the qualification places for the final of Sunday in Hayward Field in Eugene.

The 25 -year -old Star Texan, who has already qualified for the Tokyo World Championships in September as the defending world champion of the 100m, did not comment after his race other than to wish journalists a “blessed day”.

Richardson was arrested and detained last Sunday after pretending to be attacked the boyfriend Christian Coleman while the couple crossed Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, who won the 100m on Friday, was the fastest qualification for the 200m final, defeating Olympic champion Gabby Thomas in second place.

Jefferson-Wooden managed 22.06 seconds in his heat, with Thomas just behind in 22.19 seconds.

Richardson’s partner, Coleman, for his part, qualified for the final of the men’s 200m male, finishing second in his heat in 20.20 seconds, just behind the world champion Noah Lyles in 19.97 seconds.

Lyles, who has already qualified for Tokyo as a defending world champion of 100m and 200m, made a start and accelerated gently in advance before retaining Coleman and Kyree King.

Lyles reached the final with the fastest time of the heats, twice the 200m Olympic silver medalist Kenny Bednarek second faster in 19.99 seconds.
