A group of Manchester United supporters has postponed a demonstration against the ownership of the club planned for the day of its opening match of the Premier League season.

The 1958 had organized a protest march in Old Trafford on August 17, before United’s shock with Arsenal, with banners referring to the owner of the Sir Jim Ratcliffe minority.

The 1958 has supervised numerous events in recent years, mainly targeting unpopular majority shareholders The Glazers, but frustration has now spread to Ratcliffe.

British billionaire businessman, who has a 28.94% participation in United, has caused wide changes – often unpopular – since he took care of the daily operational control of the Glazers in February 2024.

“Jim Ratcliffe chose to go to bed with the Glazers and, in our opinion, helps to keep them in charge,” said a group representative, who added that Ratcliffe was “no savior” and “as a (red) disguised” last week.

However, after conducting an investigation, the group recognized that opinion is divided and the moment is not good for a demonstration.

A statement indicates: “With a database as diverse and passionate as ours, finding the right balance is not always easy. We had to consider the momentum, the calendar, the appetite of the fans, the broader consequences of the protest activity while assessing how current and future decisions can impact us as fans.

“Given the current feeling in the fans base and in particular in light of these recent survey results, it is clear that there is no unified view of the management of the club under Ratcliffe.

“This split is real, and we think it would be irresponsible to risk creating a situation that could lead to a” red on the red “conflict inside or outside the stadium.”

The group says that nearly 63% of nearly 26,000 respondents to their survey said Ratcliffe and its company Ineos should be held to take into account their decisions so far by means of a demonstration. However, 68% also thought they should have more time.
